In this article, I will be sharing how you can apply your skill and experience as a Sales Manager or Sales Director to build a Multi-level marketing (MLM) business in Malaysia.

My wife and I have been building our MLM / network marketing business by partnering with BE International since March 2018.
We did quite well in the business.
Our trip to Osaka, Japan was fully sponsored by BE International when we qualified for the BE Lifestyle Travel campaign.
BE Lifestyle Travel campaign is a sales campaign held twice a year where the qualifier can get to travel overseas free of charge.
This is one of the many benefits in partnering with BE.
As of today, my wife and I have personally sponsored / recruited more than 230 members and our BE MLM business is generating a 5 figure income every month.
If you are currently a Sales Manager or Sales Director, how can you apply your knowledge, skill and work experience into building a MLM business in Malaysia?
In the following section, I will share with you 3 tips how you can do so.
1) Building your team
Firstly, you have to understand that building a network marketing is very similar with building a traditional sales team in a company.
However, in a traditional business, new sales executives are hired by the Human Resource (HR) department.
HR department will advertise the sale job opening, conduct the job interview and hire the sales person.
Your job as a Sales Manager is to manage these salesman and saleswoman.
In a traditional business, the sales executives are paid a monthly salary plus commission for the sales that they bring into the company.
However, when you are building a MLM business, the people that you will be recruiting into your business are not employees because they are not paid a monthly salary.
These people are freelancer or free agent and they don’t have to listen to you.
Therefore, you cannot apply your managerial skill as a traditional Sales Manager in building a MLM team.
What can you do in order to recruit new people into your MLM business?
Well, you can make use your selling skill.
You have to sell the possibility of your prospect achieving his or her dream by using network marketing business opportunity as the vehicle.
This is quite challenging if you have never done it before because you are trying to sell something which is intangible.
For me and my wife, when we are talking to a prospect, we are trying to sell a “vehicle” which is the MLM business opportunity offered by BE International.
This vehicle has the potential to help the prospect to achieve his or her goals and dream.
This vehicle is a hard sell because the prospect does not yet believe that it is possible.
The prospect is unsure and fearful of failing in the business.
But the fact is, it is possible because my wife and I did it.
We have to convince the prospect that he / she can do it too.
And to do that, we will need excellent selling skills!
When you are in a position of a Sales Manager with a traditional company, I’m sure you have the ability to create trust with your prospect.
In building a MLM business, you have to be able to create trust with your prospect so that he or she will take the next step.
The next step is to learn more about the MLM business opportunity in order to increase their believe level.
When a prospect believes the MLM vehicle is real, he or she will sign up and become a part of your team.
2) Product selection
Every MLM business opportunity has a wide selection of product to sell.
When a new person signed up as your business partner, which product should he / she focus on?
The direct selling company that my wife and I partnered with, BE International has a wide range of health and wellness product.
However, I will ask my new downline to focus his / her attention on 1 product only which is the Aulora Pants with Kodenshi from Japan.

Similarly, if you’ve been in the role of a Sales Manager, you should direct your sales team to focus on selling product which has a strong branding in the market, has high demand, high value and generate strong profit margin.
When you are building a MLM business, you should ask your new business associate to focus on selling the main product of your business so that they can start generating sales and making commission quickly.
3) Leadership by example
If you are a Sales Manager, the third career skill you can transfer to building your MLM business is leadership by example.
From my experience building our MLM business, new people that we’ve recruited will not do what we tell them to do.
If you try to manage your downline the way you manage your sale team in a traditional business, it will not work.
This is because, your downlines do not work for you and you are not their boss.
The only way to get them to do something is for you to have done it and share with them your results.
For example, one of the skill a person building a network marketing business is the ability to generate new leads.
They’ll need to know how to generate leads so that the leads can be converted into a customer.
One of the way my wife and I generate leads is by publishing video content on TikTok.
If I were to tell my downline to published video on TikTok, they may or may not do it.
Some may do it but half heartedly.
So what I did was publish video content regularly on our TikTok channel.
When I published a video on TikTok, I will tag my active downline.
This is leadership by example.
I want to show new people in my team that I am not all talk but no action.
I want to show them I am also working hard daily and actively using TikTok to generate leads for my business.

There you have it, 3 tips on how you can use your knowledge, skill and experience working as a Sales Manager or Sales Director in a traditional business and use them into build your MLM business.
To become a good network marketing leader, you must have the ability to create the Believe that a MLM business can help your downlines to achieve their dreams.
But before you can become a good leader, you have to be a good follower.
Don’t you think so?
Therefore, if you want to be successful in building a MLM business, you must follow your upline.
When you believe and trust your upline, your downline will believe and trust you.
