How To Deal With Retrenchment As A Manager

Welcome to Mommy Lynn Blog. My name is Lynn and I am from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Mommy Lynn

Above is a picture of me taken during my trip to Seoul, South Korea back in February 2023.

My husband and I are professional network marketers.

We have been building our network marketing business by partnering with one of the top MLM company in Malaysia since March 2018.

In this article, I thought of sharing a conversation with my friend who is a financial planner.

If you are working in a managerial position in Malaysia, you may be able to relate to this article.

My friend shared with me her conversation with her client that was recently retrenched.

“Why has this happened to me?”

“I wish I’d done things differently…”

“What should I do next?”

This was her first statement, when they started their conversation.

Recently, my friend’s client found herself in the retrenchment list.

She couldn’t believe that it would happen to her.

When she talked about her upcoming bills and loan commitments, she broke down.

She dared not even go to her future plans!

My friend could relate with her client as her husband went through the same situation many years ago.

It was devastating for her and her family.

Retrenchments are one of the most traumatic events that a person can go through.

No one wants to go through this.

The key take away my friend learnt during her husband’s retrenchment is never blame yourselves and don’t take it personally.

Always stay calm and focus on the priorities.

As you will be called upon to make lots of important decisions, and every decision we make would affect our finances in the future.

If you are a manager and was retrenched, what can you do?

The following are some suggested from my friend with her financial planning background:

During this period of time, this is what you can do:

  • Go through the retrenchment package that the company offers.
  • Calculate how long will the retrenchment package last.
  • Calculate how long will your emergency fund last.
  • Review your financial position.
  • Start create a budget.

Bear in mind that you need to understand all the options available to you, so that you can make informed decisions that best suit you and your family.

Be more proactive when it comes to getting help, don’t be ashamed because there’s nothing wrong in seeking help.

Retrenchment for a husband or wife is definitely a crisis for the family.

That’s why when I meet new husband and wife prospect in our network marketing business, I will always share with them the crisis that can be caused by health risk or retrenchment.

They may not be interested in building a network marketing business, but if it’s a family crisis, what other option do they have?

As the saying goes, “Prepare an umbrella before it rains”.
