Thank you for visiting Mommy Lynn Blog. My name is Will and I am from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Above is a picture of me and my wife, Mommy Lynn when we visited Universal Studio in Osaka, Japan.

My wife and I have been building our network marketing / MLM business since March 2018.

We did quite well in the business.

Our trip to Osaka was fully sponsored by the company that we’ve partnered with through the yearly sales campaign.

The sales campaign is held twice a year where the qualifier can get to travel overseas free of charge!

This is one of the many benefits building a network marketing business.

In this article, I thought of sharing my thoughts on developing your team in your network marketing business.

For our business, our primary market is Malaysia.

Probably you’ve already know, building a network marketing business is not an individual effort.

In fact, it is a people franchise.

To be precise, network marketing is more of growing and developing teams within individual lines in your business.

If you’ve structured your network properly, you would have multiple income producing lines with key downline leaders within your individual line of sponsorship.

Therefore, if you want to grow your network marketing business, you have to be able to train and develop teams within your network.

To be honest, I don’t have much experience developing teams before I started my MLM business.

Therefore, this is quite a challenging area for me.

A couple of months back, I heard a very interesting podcast from Tim Ferriss.

In his podcast, Tim Ferriss was interviewing Eric Schmidt, the former Chairman of Alphabet, the parent company of Google.

During the interview, Schmidt mentioned that during his time as Google CEO and Chairman, he was coached by a person name Bill Campbell.

Schmidt also mentioned that Bill Campbell was probably the best coach for teams development in Silicon Valley.

That statement from Schmidt caught my attention and I started to do more research on Bill Campbell.

Trillion Dollar Coach book

I ended up purchasing a book about Bill Campbell call Trillion Dollar Coach.

I read the book, more than once actually and in this article, I will share some lessons I’ve learnt from the book on team development.

Firstly, who is Bill Campbell and what lesson can he teach us professional network marketers?

I believe most Malaysian would not have heard of Bill Campbell.

Bill Campbell was a well-accomplished corporate executive in his own right.

He was the VP of Marketing and was a board director for Apple Inc. and CEO for Claris, Intuit, and GO Corporation.

He was also an executive coach for some Silicon Valley famous executives such as Steve Jobs, Larry Page, Marissa Mayer, Carol Sandberg etc.

What’s amazing was, before he became a corporate executive and executive coach, Bill Campbell was a notable coach for American Football teams.

If you want to learn how to develop teams for a network marketing business, I believe Bill Campbell is well qualified to teach us.

From what I’ve read from the book Trillion Dollar Coach, I will try to apply it in the MLM industry.

What makes you a leader in your MLM network?

As a sponsor or upline, are you automatically a leader?

Based on my experience, just because you are an upline, it does not make you a leader.

What makes you a leader then?

Your followers of course.

Real leadership in network marketing is all about bringing people together and helping them flourish.

The first lesson in developing teams that I’ve learnt from Bill Campbell is to ensure all of your downlines that their view matters.

Reason being, it is your downlines that decide whether you are a great leader or not.

If they think of you as a great leader, then they’ll hail you as their leader.

They will respect and follow you.

As a network marketing professional, we must know that the people in our network are the foundation of the success of our business.

Therefore we must help them grow, develop and become more effective in their business.

To develop effective team, as a leader you start by identifying the right people, fuel their fire and amplify their energy.

You achieve this by creating an environment that supports, respects and trust.

How do you provide support for your downlines?

Support for your downlines is about giving them the necessary tools, training, information, and coaching needed to succeed in their MLM business.

Great leaders should continuously develop the skills of their people, so they grow and excel even more.

How do you create respect within your network?

You create an environment of respect by treating each person as an individual, understanding their goals and being sensitive to the choices they made in life.

How about trust? How do you create trust within your network?

To create trust in your network is about giving people the freedom to take action and make decisions.

It’s about letting them know that you believe in them and that they can accomplish great things.

If you want to develop teams in your network marketing business, it starts by being a great coach.

You should lie awake at night thinking about the ways to make each of your member in your network better.

You should genuinely concerned about creating an environment where one can improve himself or herself and be better each day.

A great leader’s priority is the success and well being of the people in his network.

The above are some of the lessons I’ve learnt from Bill Campbell in the book Trillion Dollar Coach.
