My husband and I have partnered with BE International since March 2018 building our network marketing business.

In the BE business, there is quite a large range of functional food product.

One such product is the Belixz Livcore.

In this article, I thought of sharing some information on the type of food you can eat which can help to take care of your liver health.

Our liver

As you may already know, our liver is the main organ within our body that’s responsible for detoxification.

Let’s think about all the foods that we eat as Malaysian.

We consume large amount of sugars, excessive fats and refined foods every day that cause toxins to accumulate in our liver.

Here lies the problem…

Those toxins accumulate over time which cause all the degenerative changes to occur within our liver.

If we don’t take care of our liver, we are going to eventually have significant liver damage.

The latest WHO data published in 2020 Liver Disease Deaths in Malaysia reached 5,125 or 3.05% of total deaths.

The age adjusted Death Rate is 17.91 per 100,000 of population ranks Malaysia #97 in the world.

This is a serious issue when you look at the amount of carbohydrates as well as processed foods that we Malaysian consume.

Our liver has to take all of the sugar we consumed and convert it into fat and it becomes so excessive that we start building up fat in the liver which will cause serious problems.

According to John Hopkins Medicine website, I got to know that our liver does many important functions such as:

  • Produces bile which helps carry away waste and break down fats into the small intestine during digestion
  • Produces cholesterol and special proteins to carry fats through our body
  • Stores and releases glucose as needed
  • Processes hemoglobin for use of its iron content
  • It clears the blood of drugs and other harmful substances
  • It regulates blood clotting

Food for liver

There are several liver healing foods that we need to start adding to our diet to help cleanse our liver.

A good example is coconut oil.

“Medium-chain fatty acids, such as virgin coconut oil, have been proven to promote the beta-oxidation of fat, thus protecting against non-alcoholic fatty liver.

Just a tablespoon of coconut oil everyday can be very beneficial.

Adding cruciferous vegetables to your diet will help raise the level of glutathione.

Glutathione an antioxidant that’s a liver detoxifier and anti-inflammatory.

You can also take sulfur rich vegetables such as onions and garlic.

Onion and garlic help our liver produce bile to break down fat which in turn makes it easier for our body to burn carbohydrate and energy.

“In conclusion, our results indicate that regular consumption of onion can prevent from development of NAFLD at least partially through improvement in serum glycemic indices, and TG, and down regulation of hepatic TNF-α gene expression, which plays a pivotal role in both inflammation and insulin resistance.”

By having one to two cups of coffee a day will keep the doctor away!

Coffee is a great antioxidant to help preserve and heal our liver.

You can also take spices which are rich in antioxidant such as curcumin which is good for our liver.

One of the greatest herbs for our liver health is called milk thistle.

Milk thistle is also known as silymarin which can help to repair damaged cells and its a major detoxifier and this will do wonders for our liver.

How about fruits?

Always keep lemons around!

Squeeze lemon into a glass of water first thing in the morning and drink it on an empty stomach.

It’s an amazing detoxifier and will also help our liver to emulsify fat.

Berries can also help to cleanse your liver because it is rich in polyphenols.

How about seafood?

If you love seafood, eat fatty fishes because they are great sources of Omega-3s.

You can also eat healthy fats such as olive oils and nuts.
