Can far infrared ray (FIR) clothing really help to relieve sore muscles after a workout session?
In this article, I will share my personal experience wearing a pair of FIR T-shirt, compression pants and socks after an exercise session.
Hello, my name is Daddy Will and I am from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
If you didn’t know, Malaysia has been on partial lockdown and then a full lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Before the pandemic, I used to go to the gym at Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur twice a week to exercise.
But ever since the lockdown has been implemented, I was unable to workout in the gym anymore.
In the first few weeks since the lockdown, I did only burpees at home just to stay fit.
I started doing 30 – 40 sets of burpees everyday.
After a while, I kind of got into the habit of doing burpees everyday.
I like burpees because it was quick and simple and I could get some workout done.
But after a couple of months of doing burpees at home, I noticed something strange about my back.
My back was getting weaker
One day, I decided to pick up my daughter to hug her.
She was 9 years old and weights around 30 kg.
I carried my daughter and held her for about 1 minute.
The following day, I noticed some tightness on my lower back.
At first, I could not figure out why.
Then I remembered, the only heavy thing that I carried the day before was my daughter.
I could not believe it.
I was experiencing delayed onset muscle soreness or DOMS from carrying my daughter!
It was as if I did a heavy bar bell lift at the gym.
How could my back muscles gotten so weak?
Then I realised, burpee movements do not really help to strengthen back muscles.
Burpees can help to strengthen your biceps, chest and abdominal muscles, but it does not really strengthen your back muscles.
After months of doing only burpees at home, I believe that has caused my back muscles to weaken gradually.
What’s my solution to strengthen my back muscles?
It’s with my old friend, the kettlebell.
Getting back into kettlebell
When I was going for my gym sessions in Bangsar, I’ve also joined their kettlebell classes.
I have learnt all the basic kettlebell movements such as:
- Double hand swing
- Sumo squat
- Single arm row
- Figure of eight
- Kettlebell clean
- Goblet squat
- Turkish get up
- And many more
When Malaysia went under Covid-19 lockdown, I stopped my kettle sessions also.
But I do have one 28 kg kettlebell at home.
Above is a picture of my 28 kg kettlebell.
I also have a styrofoam roller and baseball to relieve stiff muscles.
I know the simple kettlebell double hand swing is great to strengthen our back.
That was what I did at home.
I started doing multiple sets of kettlebell double hand swings at home.
I did a total of 200 kettlebell swings.
Why am I telling you my kettlebell workout story?
I know kettlebell workout is a form of weight lifting plus cardio exercise.
When you start doing it, be ready to experience some delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) on your hands, shoulder, lower back and thigh.
This is where my personal experience wearing far infrared ray (FIR) emitting garment for muscles pain relieve comes in.
Wearing FIR clothing
After I’ve restart my kettlebell workout, I was expecting DOMS on my body.
The following morning, I started to feel some tightness on my thigh muscles.
What I did was put on my Aulora Pants.
Aulora Pants is a type of far infrared ray emitting full length compression pants.
It is made using a special type of fabric technology known as Kodenshi from Japan.
Kodenshi technology works by infusing ultra-fine ceramic particles into the fiber of the fabric.
The ceramic particles are so small it is not possible to see with your naked eye.
For more information, click the image below to watch an introduction video on YouTube about the Kodenshi fiber technology.
The main benefits of Kodenshi fabric is help to improve our body blood circulation.
When the material touches the skin of the wearer, it will absorb the person’s body heat and the ultra-fine ceramic particles in the fiber will emit far infrared ray (FIR).
When I am wearing the Aulora Pants, the tightness on my thigh muscles is still manageable.
Nonetheless, I did not felt any soreness in my muscles.
Later in the day, I started to feel some tightness on my lower back muscles.
That was when I put on my Aulora Basic Top.
The Basic Top is a T-shirt made with the same Kodenshi material.
I have far infrared ray clothing covering from my neck down to my ankle.
At night before I went to sleep, I put on a pair of Aulora Socks.
The Aulora Socks is a type of socks made using a combination of cotton Rayon material and Kodenshi fabric.
Now, I have FIR material covering from my neck down to my toes.
The Aulora Pants, Basic Top and Socks are FIR clothing from the Aulora Series collection by a company call BE International.
The Aulora Series are available in both women and men design.
Above is a picture of the Aulora Series women collection consist of the Aulora Pants for women, socks, T-shirt and panties.
Above is a picture of the Aulora Series men collection consist of the Aulora Pants for men, socks, T-shirt and boxer.
When I am wearing the FIR clothing, I can honestly say I did not experience any delayed onset muscle soreness after my kettlebell workout.
What I did experienced was tightness on my thigh and lower back muscles.
To relieve the muscles tightness, all I did was some stretching.
Remedies to relieve muscle pain
How did far infrared ray (FIR) emitting garment helped to relieve sore muscles after a strenuous workout session?
I believe it was the improve blood circulation to the muscles.
Wearing FIR garment has the similar effect as putting heating pads on your muscles.
According to www.menshealth.com:
“The idea behind heating pads is that they increase blood flow because it is a vasodilator (opens up your blood vessels), and is thought that it could help flush some of the byproducts or inflammation related to muscle soreness, out of the muscles.”
Apparently, the muscles pain relieve from wearing the Aulora Pants with Kodenshi was not unique to me.
Someone else also experienced the same effect.
Not long ago, my wife shared with me a WhatsApp message she received from a lady that bought 2 pairs of the Aulora Pants from her.
Below is a screenshot of the WhatsApp message.
Apparently, during the Movement Control Order period (MCO) in Malaysia back in March 2020, my wife’s customer and her daughter did some stretching and light workout at home.
After their workout session, the lady and her daughter experienced some aching muscles a few days later.
Immediately I recognised what they’ve experienced was delayed onset muscle soreness or DOMS.
What is DOMS?
According to www.healthline.com:
Delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is muscle pain that begins after you’ve worked out. It normally starts a day or two after a workout. You won’t feel DOMS during a workout.
Luckily my wife’s customer wore her Aulora Pants after her exercise session and she did not experience much aching body as compared with her daughter that didn’t wear the compression pants.
If you are someone who is active in sports, now you don’t have to worry about DOMS after your workout session.
You can now wear the Aulora Series far infrared ray (FIR) emitting garment to help relieve your body and muscle pain caused by DOMS.
Can you wear any of the Aulora Series garment during exercise or workout session?
The answer is yes you can!
